The attack, which took place two days ago, involved rival gang members assaulting Tajpuriya with iron rods, resulting in nearly 100 injury marks on his body. Background on the Attack
Tillu Tajpuriya, also known as Sunil Mann, was a prime accused in the 2021 Rohini court shootout in Delhi. On Tuesday, he was attacked by four inmates associated with the rival Jitender Gogi gang – Deepak, Yogesh, Rajesh, and Riyaz Khan – who used “improvised sua” to cut open the security iron grill and jumped on the ground floor using bedsheets. The attack was allegedly planned as a revenge killing for the murder of Jitender Gogi in September 2021.
Details of the Attack
The incident, which occurred at 6:30 am, was captured on CCTV cameras inside the jail. Six men can be seen stabbing Tajpuriya multiple times on his head, back, shoulders, and neck, causing fatal injuries. Another inmate, Rohit, also suffered injuries during the attack but is currently undergoing treatment and is out of danger.
Response from Officials
Prison officials rushed Tajpuriya to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. Akshat Kaushal, Additional DCP West District, Delhi Police, stated that “Information was received from DDU Hospital regarding two under-trial prisoners who were brought to the hospital from Tihar Jail. One of them, Sunil alias Tilu was brought in an unconscious state. He was later declared brought dead.”
Allegations Against Tajpuriya
Tillu Tajpuriya had allegedly planned the murder of Jitender Gogi while inside the jail. He was interrogated by the Crime Branch team in jail days after the dramatic shootout. Tajpuriya had allegedly given instructions to his associates to kill Gogi over the phone. Two members of the Tajpuriya gang, disguised as lawyers, had shot dead Gogi inside north Delhi’s Rohini court in September 2021.
